Marcelino Guillen Blue shirt Therapist

Hello

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York, I am deeply committed to providing compassionate, holistic care that respects each client’s journey. Through a blend of therapeutic approaches—including Rational-Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Crisis Intervention, and Narrative Therapy—I aim to empower patients to face their challenges, embrace their strengths, and foster the growth needed to reinvent themselves and create meaningful transformation in their lives.

My Story

Marcelino Guillén has a powerful story of transformation and resilience. He has embraced education as the key to reinventing himself and pursued his passion for becoming a social worker and earned his bachelor's and master's degrees, both Summa Cum Laude, at Lehman College.

With a deep commitment to serving marginalized communities, Marcelino has worked, not by design, across diverse practice settings, including non-profit organizations like Housing Works and Episcopal Social Services, nursing homes, adult day care centers, and some of New York City’s renowned hospitals. He has also taught Human Services as a professor within the City University of New York (CUNY) system, sharing his knowledge with future practitioners.

Throughout his career, Marcelino has worked with people facing incarceration, homelessness, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, aging, mental health, and chronic health issues. In each encounter, he noticed a common thread: many individuals were resistant to change, not because they lacked the capacity but because they were unaware of the resources within themselves or felt bound by the institutions meant to support them.

This realization led him to found Compadre Therapy, a mental health private practice devoted to unlocking each person's hidden potential. Today, Marcelino continues to help individuals confront challenges, embrace personal growth, and transform their lives with compassionate, empowering care. His journey is a testament to the strength of reinvention and the profound change that becomes possible when one taps into one's own inner resources.
